Kate & Ankur’s Pennsylvania wedding was one I won’t forget. Day one of the two-day celebration was an American style ceremony in Bethlehem, PA. A small reception of the closest family and friends followed in a family member’s backyard.
Kate and Ankur both attended the University of Delaware. Little did they know that during an innocent trip to the dining hall they would meet the love of their life. With butterflies in his stomach, Ankur traveled to Bethlehem to take Kate out to a little Italian place in her hometown.
Tired from a ten-hour shift Kate walked into their apartment. A wonderful smell filled the apartment and she saw Ankur making dinner. The table was set, the room filled with candles and he said he wanted her to go into the bedroom so she could see the cats. (Not unusual, they are always doting on them!) As she entered the room she could see rose petals everywhere. Then she noticed the cats were dressed as a bride and groom. Ankur got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The rest was a blur. The following day they walked into lunch and he surprised her with their families there to congratulate them. He had planned a perfect weekend of events to be celebrated together.
Laid back and adventurous, they love being outside together. It is the little simple dates that are their favorites. You can see their engagement adventure that started off in a small coffee shop to get an idea what one of those dates looks like!
On day one I entered Kate’s childhood home to be greeted by the family and bridesmaids all filled with smiles, laughter, and makeup. After makeup was done, and everyone was dressed we headed out to the backyard to take some family and bridesmaid portraits.
With all the preparations done we headed off to Our Lady of Perpetual Help for their Catholic ceremony. Ankur’s faced brightened and filled with love when he saw Kate for the first time. Their love and admiration for each other filled the wedding ceremony. After they walked down the aisle they were met with hugs from their wedding party and family.
Then we were off to take portraits. We started at Lehigh University’s lookout that has become home for newly married couples to take some of their wedding portraits. Then we were off to Moravian College for the rest of their portraits, with the architecture providing a perfect backdrop for the wedding party portraits. As we were doing Kate & Ankur’s wedding portraits we found the perfect location with the perfect light. I was giddy.
After we were done taking portraits we headed over to the cocktail reception. It was a small gathering of family and close friends and the perfect way to end day one. Stay tuned for day 2, and their Hindu wedding ceremony!
